- This is my project that represents how social media such as Twitter effects the identity of teens. Teenagers spend a large amount of time using social media and it has become a part of their daily lives and often changes how they view society as a whole. I used a pencil and my sketchbook to create this piece, I was inspired because I rarely use social media, and as an outsider I can see how it effects others.

- I use many forms of symbolism in my work, but one of the most important ways I used it was by making some aspects larger, and others smaller. In my work I have made the Twitter bird larger, carrying the medium sized teenagers away from their family and friends which seem tiny and insignificant compared to the bird. This is meant to show how social media can corrupt the minds of individuals and make them forget what really matters in life.

- I find my artwork to be very successful at conveying the theme and the message that I wanted to impart. Although it is rather simplistic and lacks detail I believe this is the best way for the piece to show its meaning. In fact, in order to get the message across to some of those who have been affected by the negative aspects of social media, this simple work of art might be the best way to get them to take notice.

- I enjoyed working with this limitation while I was making this piece, however some other limitations, such as the pointillism piece (below) were not as enjoyable. For this work I limited myself to only drawing with 3 pencils taped together at one time. It was fun because I was able to let my hand move more freely and flow across the page because I didn't have to worry about single precise pencil strokes.

- During my experimenting and planning for this unit, I often used a reference image as the base idea behind a piece. I then sketched out that piece in my sketchbook to create a version that I could achieve and alter in any way I saw fit. Finally, when making a final piece I would use my sketch as a reference and create my work based on said sketch using the limitation of choice.

- Using a limitation I believe has helped me better understand art, artists, and creative work in general. I describe myself as a perfectionist and often stress the small details in a piece, which can be time consuming and exhausting. Using a limitation gave me more freedom, because I couldn't go back and fix any mistakes I made; it allowed me to let my ideas flow freely from my mind onto the canvas, releasing the shackles of my usual perfectionist attitude towards art.

- Over the course of this unit I learned many useful skills involving drawing, painting, and using clay. One of the most important skills I learned as demonstrated in the drawing above, is the use of a blending tool to blend different shades. This makes the work flow better so that it isn't all just a bunch of lines, and allows for a more precise representation of light within the piece.

​- I believe that although I did not finish it, my clay tile toucan (above) was my most successful project from this unit. When sculpting I was able to trace out and create the shapes that I wanted with relative ease, and although more time consuming, It came out better than most of my drawings. I believe that once the painting is complete (if I complete it) the vibrant array of colors along with the layering and etched in details will look excellent.

- After this unit I am most interested in using clay again. The clay was fun to use in the sense that it was hands on, and you could really get down and dirty with it, while not making a huge mess and requiring little clean up. Even though it might seem difficult the clay was surprisingly easy to work with; both adding multiple layers, and carving in small details came with relative ease and accuracy. I would be excited to have more time working with clay and to experiment on a larger scale.

- Line can be interpreted in many ways. It could be straight, curved, short, long, thick, and thin; it could be alone, or part of a culmination of lines. I learned that a creative work can be made up of one type of line, or many, and that lines are the building blocks, the atoms of art and design.

- My final artwork for this unit turned out pretty well; I like how the overall design and the shape of the web turned out, as well as the checker-like shading pattern. If I were to do it again, I would have spent more time on the spider, to make it work and fit better with the pattern. I also would have taken time to fill some of the open spaces in the web with some designs, similar to the zentangle above.

- At the beginning, I was using mostly straight lines, and tried to make everything perfect, which was very frustrating and time consuming. After realizing this I opened up to having more creative Ideas, and letting those ideas sort of just flow onto the page, and working from there. This has allowed me to work more freely and develop more creative works in a shorter amount of time.

- This unit has taught me that there is no such thing as original art. Many artists have new ideas that are creative, innovative, and very unique; however, every idea stems from some other creation or work of art, whether it be the main idea behind a piece, or the smallest details that are barely noticeable.

- I had trouble with the original character remix project (seen above) because I couldn't quite get the size and scaling exact. I believe this problem was caused by the fact that I was trying to change small aspects of one specific image that I was stealing from. Once I started the next project, and was combining 2 different ideas, I had more freedom to make what I wanted, and it turned out much better.

- After this unit, I understand space much better, and how you can use it and manipulate it to alter the outcome of a work.

- I believe that the forced perspective exercise was the most helpful, because it allowed us to look at space in many new ways, and experiment with how using space can redefine a project.

- I believe that my final project was successful, however I could have made many changes to it to improve, such as color, more background, and better shading/ use of lighting.

Elliot Walker: An artist based in London that works with molten glass to create sculptures of kitchen supplies and sliced fruit. He uses contrast between the rough dark exterior of the supplies, and the smooth vivid interior of the sliced fruit.

In Art this week I have learned about forced perspective and negative space; and I have enhanced my knowledge of space and perspective. I most enjoyed arranging objects to show different aspects of space, then sketching them from new perspectives.
